Yesterday KB9VBR, N9MEA, and I (W9HDG) played around with mesh nodes in Wausau WI.  Our farthest successful link was 0.78 miles according to google earth.  We almost had a 1.3 mile link to our first permanent node, but there were trees in the way (we could see it, occasionally we would get a brief link), and could see that same node 2.3 miles but just couldn't quite link up.  The permanent node has a 16dbi Omni at 20' in the air.  All the other antennas were home made.

You can see the pictures here:

It was a good time and we look forward to playing mesh again soon.

Good to read about things happening in Wisconsin. Add a chainsaw to your tool kit :-)

Travis anything new to report from Wausau? We decided to follow suite in Green Bay. Thanks to an agreement with a local broadcaster, we now have a 180 degree sector antenna on a tower. http://www.k9eam.org/2014/09/green-bay-hams-attempting-to-launch.html
