I am very interested in hearing from others in the area that have or plan to put a node on the air. Currently I have two nodes on the air(KD5CKP-1 & W5OBM-1) at my home. The second is primarily for testing. The intent is that W5OBM-1 goes somewhere else much higher than I can get it here with hopefully a much larger foot print.

I look forward to hearing from the interested parties in the area or anyone with wisdom to share with a new and growing mesh.

Given recent developments and interest if anyone is looking for me to discuss the mesh here locally you can find me most often on 147.255+ (79.7)or Echolink node 588170. I look forward to speaking with you.

I am very interested and raring to go. I have two nodes (SSID: BroadbandHamnet-v1):

1. W2NIC-NODE1 - WRT54GL Firmware version: bbhn v1.0.0, bidirectional 2w amplifier and 15db omni antenna. Mounted in my attic. Hopefully I will get it on the roof when the ice is not so trecherous.

2. W2NIC-PI - Yep it's a raspberry pi with a Netgear wifi USB Dongle, no amplifier, no additional antenna.

I have successfully steamed 1080p movie to a laptop attached to the pi node at 500 yrds (1567 ft).

I have 2 Ubiquity Access points coming off the WRT54GL on the 172.27.0.0/255.255.0.0 subnet with every device in my house connected (16 devices) and an internet gateway.

I would be happy to talk about anything I have learned along the way. [I take criticism as well :-)]

I am in Oakland (35.243342 -89.5294089).

I would love to see an area-wide mesh put together. My nodes are lonely. :-)

I monitor alot of the area repeaters in the morning and evening commute and on the weekends. However, i monitor to the 146.94- most of the time.

Chris,

Great to hear from you! I also have two WRT54GL nodes operational (KD5CKP-1 & W5OBM-1) and have successfully managed to get IRC and FTP working, unfortunately no anonymous FTP as yet, but all in due time. I will eventually add screenshots of what I have done to the directory, but here is what is happened so far THAT I AM AWARE OF.

http://likespecies.com/MeshProp

I think you are a bit far remove for me to attempt a connection, but hopefully the daisy chain will develop quickly. Still waiting to see who else has a node operational.

If I can locate my VoIP phones that will be my next project until someone gets a node up where I have a chance of hitting them. Thanks for letting us know and please keep us informed of developments.

Welcome Chris! It was great to chat with you on the repeater this past weekend. Are you on the Tri-State mailing list? If there is interest we will try another roundtable before Christmas. I would like to get someone from the Texas group and maybe the Seattle group on the air with us for the discussion. Michael KK4IOH on the air everywhere!

Hi all, looks like I'll be checking in on this forum along with following the Western KY folks on Facebook.

Here in Martin (Weakley County) TN, I have six BHv1 nodes set up.  I have two "robo-cams" that can go online as advertised services so remote users can control pan and tilt, and the gateway "service" node has a NAS with two 32G USB drives attached for filesharing.  The gateway also has a RasPBX with 3-digit internal dialing and a Google Voice trunk for PSTN access when online.  Outside inbound callers reach an auto-attendant which offers single-digit access to a particular node, each node has voicemail that can take a message when busy or unattended/offline.  When no internet connection to the gateway is available the PBX will act as a simple intercom for the phones at each node.

Antenna-wise, I currently have two 8dBi and three 12dBi mast-mount omnis, along with a 7dBi mag mount for a "mobile rover".  For a straight-line hop deployment, I have four 14dBi "backfire" yagis and four 24dBi parabolics.  Of course the antennas can be mixed & matched as the incident requires.

Power is through buck converters so theoretically I can put 8-24VDC into the PowerPole inputs and get a stable 12V or 5V out to the hardware.  I still keep the AC wall-warts labeled and in the bag if needed.

Although everything has been tested inside using the stock ducks, nothing is outside and "live" at this time.  I'm in a rural area where the trees are taller than the buildings and I haven't found anyone yet that's willing to offer 300' tower real estate for a $20 router.  Wink

Field-expedient masts and coax will be my final purchases, got to get through the holidays first.

FWIW, i did a presentation on BH last month at the WTARS meeting.  We got at least two stock routers flashed for Madison County ops that evening, we would have got a 0.4.3 upgraded if the op had remembered his password.  Laughing

I have another node. Working on making it a field station. I am averaging 55db output from both linksys nodes and 40db from the raspberry pi.

I plan on doing something. I may buy my first node for the sake of time!! I'm over in Crittenden County and I don't see anyone else to connect to now. If I placed a node in each of my relatives homes, I could cover quite a bit of ground!!!

I was able to buy 5 linksys units with the software already loaded.  I got them up and running and they see each other.  I changed the node names and the passwords.  I won't have them all up 24/7 but maybe I'll leave one on  in case someone wants to see if they can reach it.  These are stock linksys 54g boxes.  I tried passing internet access through but no luck.  I am just beginning to read the articles on this site about the different applications.
