Have two Cisco 7940 IP phones and a Motorola XT801 with a Grandstream HT701. Connected over a 2.4 Broadband-Hamnet mesh network.

No worries. I got into the router via the wireless connection from the other mesh node and re-enabled DHCP.

Also downloaded and started experimenting with Wireshark and trying to learn a little more about IP addressing.

Kind of disappointed though that I got no replies on the forum. I'm sure many amateurs who are not networking experts are reluctant to get into MMSH-mesh because of the associated technical issues. It is admittedly pretty easy to flash a Linksys router to create a mesh node, but doing something useful with it afterwards requires a lot more networking expertise or mentoring from others who are more knowledgeable.

There are no mesh nodes anywhere near my location that I can connect with so will have to simply experiment with the two that I have set up and figuring at this point that it I will pretty much have to do so on my own.

Topic : How to setup interfaces

Hello,

I have a lot of the following routers: https://openwrt.org/toh/zinwell/zw4400

I have successfully installed OpenWRT...but as there is no available version of Broadband-Hamnet, I need to know how to configure the wireless interfaces for mesh.

In addition: I will have 420, 900, 2.4 and 5.4 cards available, so is it possible to bridge the various frequencies into one network that is one mesh?

73,

KB3VWG

(also is it possible to get an x86 and IXP42x-tw5334 target of Broadband-Hamnet, or where can I find the files to compile?)

Topic : Newbie needs help

I have been experimenting with two WRT-54G routers that I successfully set up with HSMM-Mesh .

In my experimenting, I disabled the DHCP server on one of them (WRT-54G v3) and now cannot access that mesh node via the ethernet connection using my web browser. ipconfig says that no IP address has been issued by the connected device. I guess I know why.

So my question becomes: Is there a way to get back into my mesh node so that I can re-enable the DHCP function?

Also...is there a way to reset the router to default HSMM-Mesh settings so that I can get into it and start over?

Sorry I really need some help with this, as I am really a newbie with networking issues.

Thanks, Rick VE3ORY

Hi.  Newbie here.  I'm curious if anyone is in the Charleston (Mt. Pleasant) area and working on a node.  I would like to see if there is anyone to connect with out here before going too far down the rabbit hole.

Topic : Help sharing internet from Node A to B

So i have 3 WRT54G devices flashed and running, all seeing each other. The question I have is now I am reading and trying to share the internet from node A at my router to node B in my bedroom for testing in the same house. I did check "mesh gateway" at node A at the router, reset, but still the same result. I did see some forums about port forwarding on node A? but what steps am I missing? I tried for the heck of it forwarding port 80 on node A at the router, of course it did no good.  Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Feel free to also email me some info at admin@hamradioconcepts.com

Topic : Linksys and Ubiquiti hardware not cooperating

I now have two nodes set up, one on Linksys hardware (node 1) and one on Ubiquiti hardware (node 2).  Node 1 displays Node 2 status fine.  Node 2 can see Node 1 but is unable to display Node 1 status.  Both are running freshly downloaded firmware 3.1.0.  Plenty of signal strength since both nodes are in same room.  I also installed HamChat on both nodes and have one-way transmission at best.  Anything I should check or try?

Wizards,

I have a peek-a-boo view to a tower 8KM away.  I've been wrestling over what antenna to buy for use with my WRT54GL.  I'm worried about the distance.  I'm worried about the power output.  Do these little routers provide enough juice to drive a high gain antenna?

Thanks,

Dave R

Topic : Looking for nodes near Walnut Creek Park

I’m on the south side of Walnut Creek Park, and have a GSv2 in the mail, along with some cheapo “25dB gain” 2.4 GHz Yagis from eBay (we’ll see if they work or not), and was wondering if there’s anyone near the area to connect to.  I tried using the Google map on this site, but it looks like some of the nodes shown which would be nearby may not be there any longer.  Thanks for any info!

As big as the map is now (1700+ nodes), yes, it takes a few seconds to regenerate. Also, you may need to clear your browser cache to pick up the latest changes (depending on browser). 73 & Happy Meshing Jim

[RESOLVED] Nevermind, it finally showed up. Apparently there is some delay in adding your node once you post it.

If you don't have two nodes running the service does not show.

Topic : Getting HamChat to show as advertised service

HamChat is installed and working on my WRT54G router running firmware version 3.1.0.  I have tried to make in an advertised service using Setup then Port Forwarding, DHCP, and Services.  After adding the url, saving changes, and rebooting the router, HamChat does not show as an advertised service.  I have tested the url by entering it directly into the browser address bar, and it works fine.

Any thoughts on other things to try or check?

Many thanks,

Keith - KE4TH

Topic : "Get on Map" not working

I can't seem to get on the map using the "Online Form" in the "Get on the Map" link. I submit my coordinates and information, the it pauses for a few seconds, and goes to a map of the nodes but I'm not there.

http://www.hsmm-mesh.org/googlemapped-mesh-nodes.html

The instructions are not clear enough as to how enter the information. Can someone give me some insight as to what I may be doing wrong?

Regards,

K5RWD
